Mfg Works Provides Training, Transportation To Jobs

Manufacturing Works, formally Wire-Net, recently launched a transportation pilot that connects individuals to jobs in the manufacturing sector. Utilizing idle church vans in partnership with Cleveland Clergy Coalition and the American Association of Clergy and Employers, the organization seeks to address the “no car, no job; no job, no car” paradox and has identified Collinwood as a transportation hub.

MFG Works secured funding for the pilot in August of 2019 through Fund For Our Economic Future’s Paradox Prize and is beginning to deploy the first cohort of vans in Collinwood. MFG Works will pick up individuals at their homes, take them to partner employer Parmatex in Solon for tours, interviews and, upon hire, to work.

For some, transportation is a barrier to employment, and employers have identified transportation as a barrier to talent acquisition and retention. The pilot seeks to remedy that.

Core brands include: Permatex®, Fast Orange®, Spray Nine®, the Right Stuff® and Devcon® Home. The Solon manufacturer is seeking a Machine C Operator to join their 2nd shift team, 3:00pm-11:00pm. The position is the manufacturer’s entry-level position, requires High School Diploma or equivalent (GED), and at least 1 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment. Machine C Operator will be responsible for: operating assigned line equipment in an efficient manner while maintaining production quality standards, performing minor adjustments, setups and changeovers, loading, cleaning and general operation of various filling and packing equipment, keeping track of production, providing assistance to other line teams, operating lift equipment, and participating in S.T.O.P Safety Program. Pay range for this position is $11.00/hr - $14.96/hr, based on experience and skill set.
