How will you celebrate Advent?

Advent is time of preparation for the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ.  How do you prepare for this momentous event?  Go to stjeromecleveland.org on Facebook and share your favorite traditions.  Here are some ideas we thought of:

Pick a gospel and read one chapter daily.

Call a relative that you haven’t spoken to in a long time.

Visit someone in a nursing home.

Forgive an old hurt.  If you can’t reach the person any longer, write a letter saying you forgive them.

Seek forgiveness.  If you know you have hurt someone apologize, even if it was a long time ago.

Pray a decade of the rosary every day.

Buy one item for a food pantry every time you shop.

Bake cookies or bread with a child.

Write down a favorite memory of your parents or grandparents to give to your children and grandchildren.

 Pray for our priests.

Introduce yourself to someone in church, try to at least say hello every Sunday of Advent.

Smile at people when you are out shopping.  It may brighten someone’s day!

Donate kid’s gloves or mittens to a local school for children who don’t have their own or have lost them.

 Pray for Pope Francis.

If you are blessed to still be able to, call your grandparents.

If you are blessed to still be able to, call your parents.

Pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy.

Try to get to a weekday Mass.

Sing the hymns in church.  God gave you that voice, he deserves to hear it.

Set up the Crèche in a place where you will see it every day.

Pray for our Service members and their families.  Go to AMillionThanks.org to learn how to send cards and letters to a service member.

Put on some Christmas music and sing along.

 Volunteer at the Food Bank.

Collect/donate baby and children’s clothing you are no longer using to Birthright 960 E 185th St, Cleveland, Ohio 44119: (216) 486-2800.

Celebrate Mass and have a wonderful Christmas!
