Playwrights Local Announces The 5th Annual Cleveland Playwrights Festival on October 12

THE 5TH ANNUAL CLEVELAND PLAYWRIGHTS FESTIVAL 

Free plays, workshops, a live recording of a radio play, and special sessions presented October 12 at Waterloo Arts. 

Cleveland, OH; September 12, 2019

Playwrights Local announces The 5th Annual Cleveland Playwrights Festival, its latest free, annual gathering for playwrights, theater-goers, and arts patrons. Presented on Saturday, October 12, the Festival features open classes and craft talks, new works by local authors, a live recording of a radio play, two special showcases, and more. Sessions in this day-long event run from 12:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at the Creative Space at Waterloo Arts in North Collinwood (397 East 156th Street, Cleveland, OH 44110). All offerings are free and open to the public, and tickets or reservations are not required. The Festival is intended for adults and teens.

Featured writers in The 5th Annual Cleveland Playwrights Festivalinclude Adam Benjamin, Luke Brett, Carol Dolan, Charles Ellenbogen, Cat Kenney, Michael S. Merritt, Robert Thomas Noll, Elias Richard Stimac, and Meghan Louise Wagner, with more to be announced. A workshop on documentary playwriting will be taught by Christopher Johnston, and a Q&A with playwright George Brant will be hosted by Les Hunter. Partner companies co-presenting in the Festival include The Cleveland Shakespeare Festival, The Dramatists Guild - Ohio Region, Literary Cleveland, the NEOMFA Writing Program, Radio on the Lake Theatre, and the Young Playwrights Collective.

“Our annual Cleveland Playwrights Festival gives us a chance to celebrate the great local writers in our area,” says David Todd, Artistic Director of Playwrights Local. “There are certain core sessions we have every year such as a free playwriting workshop and craft talk, along with a number of staged readings. We also try to add something new each time around. This year, we have a live recording of a radio play and new session partners in the NEOMFA writing program, Radio on the Lake Theatre, and our sponsored group the Young Playwrights Collective.”

Playwrights Local is a theater company based in Cleveland.
