E 185th Neighborhood Association Launches Collinwood Reads

Collinwood Reads! Bookmark

It was a grand old time, at the E 185th Neighborhood Association's (the "Block Watch") December 11th meeting. Good food, good neighbors - & books! Lots of books!

Each December meeting, our group traditionally holds its annual Holiday Potluck & Get Together, where we share favorite dishes, while also sharing good times with our neighbors. Conversation is lively, the food is great . . . & it's always a great way to start off the holidays.

This year though, we decided to add something a bit different: collecting books, for the new Collinwood Reads!project, just getting rolling in our community. Not only that . . . to help introduce Collinwood Reads!to everyone in Collinwood, we also decided to have even more fun, & read 'Twas the Night Before Christmas (A Visit from St Nicholas) as a group. And we did it, while being taped by Cleveland's TV20.

We had a ball, tossing the lines from one end of the room to another, listening as this old beloved poem was read aloud, by many voices, with the Lithuanian Hall's Christmas trees a perfect backdrop to our reading.

Meanwhile, all kinds of books were stacking up on the counter: kids' & adults' reads, all different authors & categories - we actually ended up with 159 books. A very good start for Collinwood Reads! (Check out the attached photos - thank you, Caroline Peak.)

As we always do every month, we also welcomed Councilman Polensek, our own Police Fifth District's Community Engagement officers (& Fifth District Commander Sammy Morris), who reported on things happening around the Collinwood community. We were also pleased to have Ebony Donley - who created Collinwood Reads!- there to not only accept all these books, but tell us about Collinwood Reads!

Watch for TV20's airing of our meeting. And stay tuned, for more news coming about Collinwood Reads! - big things will be happening, connected to this great project, come 2019!

As always, we invite you to check out your local Neighborhood Association - the meetings are always listed in the Community Meetings calendar, here in theCollinwood Observer. This is your regular monthly chance, to talk to both the Councilman & our local Police District, keep up to date on neighborhood issues - & it's a great way to be active in this community of ours. Look forward to seeing you! (And bring a neighbor!)
