This Month’s Program Highlights features:

Common Sense Legal @ Collinwood Branch

Cleveland Public Library is changing to meet the needs of our patrons by building partnerships and collaborating with other organizations to increase access to resources and services that improve their quality of life.  On, Wednesday, March 14th, the Collinwood Branch was one of four branches that brought a new, FREE, resource to our community - Common Sense Legal.  The online tools available at www.ohiolegahelp.org (and coming soon to www.lasclev.org) allow people to answer common sense questions about their situation and create legal documents at the end of the “interview.”  People can prepare legal documents to apply to seal a criminal record, to answer an eviction, and to apply for a simple divorce when they do not have minor children, as well as others.  During the workshops, Legal Aid and Case Western Reserve Law Students assisted patrons in using these online tools that are available to the public anytime.  Participants were very pleased with the workshop Ericka Smith, from the staff, reported that “One of the people who participated ask me if ”there would be additional workshops in the future and if she needed some help would I be available to assist with completing the legal forms with her." Others stated to the manager, Caroline Peak that they were very happy that a program of this nature was provided in the community instead of them having to commute downtown and having to pay bus fare. Cleveland Legal Aid will continue working to improve the tools and expand their use through its partnership with Cleveland Public Library.
