Art Club

Teaching has always been a passion of mine.  My name is Mrs. Morrissey and I teach seven graders at St. Jerome school.  During the day I am busy with seventh graders teaching English, Reading, Science and Spelling.  I also teach eighth graders English and Reading.  But once a week after school I am in charge of the craft club.

All the teachers in the school are responsible for a club.  The clubs this year have included Puzzle club, Book club, Computer club and Lego club.  Each club runs for 6 weeks and there are three or four clubs running at a time.  Students may sign up for as many clubs as they like, giving them a large variety of choices.  The Craft club includes students from first grade through sixth grade.  Some of the projects we have completed include necklaces and bracelets, painted clay pots with tissue paper flowers and a stained glass project.  A few of the seventh graders help during craft club.  The younger kids really enjoy the help from the “big kids”.  The seventh graders feel pride in a job well done and are developing leadership skills.   While the club is a fun activity, the students are also learning essential life skills such as cooperation, hand-eye coordination and promoting creativity.

This session of clubs started mid-January and will wrap up the end of February.   By the time the club is over the rest of the school year will fly by as the seventh graders are looking forward to a field trip, a visit to Villa Angela St Joseph high school, a middle school field trip with the sixth, seventh and eighth grade and many end of the year activities.  These bright and promising students are sure to grow into fine young men and women and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for them!
