Enrollment Begins at Lakeshore Intergenerational School for 2016-2017 Year

Lakeshore Intergenerational School is so pleased to have full enrollment for our second year here in the North Collinwood area.  Many community members may not be fully aware of our presence here so we would like to give a brief overview of LIS as a large portion of our philosophy is community engagement and promoting lifelong learning.

The focus of our educational model and philosophy is a developmental curriculum where progress is based on mastering benchmarks in reading, writing and mathematics.  Students achieve success with our developmental curriculum, focusing on each child’s stage of learning instead of an arbitrary grade level or age criteria.  By meeting each student’s social/emotional needs along with their academic needs, we embrace an educational environment of high expectations leading to students who are high school, college and career ready.  We offer multi-age classes of no more than 17 students per classroom.  Our teachers are all highly qualified and we don’t forget about those all-important extra-curricular classes.  At Lakeshore Intergenerational School we offer physical education/health class daily along with music and art classes.

Our intergenerational model provides meaningful relationships for our students with adults and older adults as reading mentors and volunteers.  Each classroom also partners with a nursing home or long-term care facility for curriculum-based activities with residents monthly.  The intergenerational approach continues as we include interactions with volunteers from local high schools, colleges and universities.  We are always looking for community members to serve as reading mentors, tutors or to share a skill, hobby or talent.  If interested, please contact our office for more information.

Please take some time to visit our website to learn more information about this amazing approach to education.  Or, better yet, attend an information session to hear first-hand our approach for educating the children of North Collinwood. Upcoming sessions are on

  • Friday February 5th at 8:15am,
  • Thursday February 18th at 5:30pm, and
  • Wednesday March 2nd at 5:30pm.

Enrollment is beginning for the 2016-2017 school year.  If you are looking for a school for your child, now is the time to start thinking about an educational approach that would be appropriate for your family. For more information on the admissions process, please contact our team at admissions@LakeshoreSchool.org or 216-367-5720.  LIS is adding a grade level each year until we are a full K-8 school.  For the 2016-2017 school year, we are enrolling students in grades K-4.
