Memorial Garden Honors the Past and Looks to the Future

Students and community members working together.

The leaves might be changing and the temperatures falling, but the students At Memorial are all fired up about the community garden. Created to honor the victims of the Collinwood fire in 1908, the garden is a joint effort between the students at Memorial School and Collinwood’s Little Red Cap group, which is made up of members from the community.

This summer new mulch was laid and the ground overturned in an effort to prepare the area for planting.  The goal is to create a space that honors both the lives lost and fosters a sense of community among the living.  Little Red Cap meetings are open to the public and welcome community support. To volunteer to help in the garden or to make a financial donation to assist with the upkeep of the garden, please contact Elva Brodnick at carrollsell@gmail.com or Michelle Person at michelle.person@clevelandmetroschools.org.
