Faith-In-Action

3rd and 4th grade students holding collection boxes for charity.

St. Jerome is a community in its own right but also a member of the neighborhood and world communities.  The theme for Catholic Schools Week back in January was Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.  The students of St. Jerome have been busy gaining knowledge but have also been busy living their faith with two projects of service to others.

One project they have been working on is called the Rice Bowl.  In this project, monetary donations are collected to support Catholic Relief Services’ programs around the world.  It also supports local hunger and poverty alleviation in the diocese in which it is collected.  This faith-in-action activity helped us to focus on service to help others.

Another project students worked on was to collect “Pennies for Pasta” a fund to help those with Leukemia and Lymphoma.  Each student was given a box to collect spare change or change they may have earned from doing chores.  The funds raised will assist in serving all patients, as well as funding innovative research worldwide to find cures, public health and professional education.  The classroom with the top donations will receive a pasta lunch from Olive Garden.

With both of these projects, our students are helping people in the communities in which they live.  We are proud of their service to others.
