June Vibrancy Events on Waterloo

Before you know it, summer will be here! To kick off the heat wave, Collinwood will be celebrating with a variety of free events in June! Made possible through generous support of The Kresge Foundation and Cuyahoga Arts and Culture, the month of June will feature four fun and free events that the entire family will enjoy in the artistic neighborhood of Collinwood!

The first Vibrancy Project is an Open Studio Party at Waterloo Arts on Friday, June 6th from 6p.m.-8p.m. Visitors will get the chance to mingle with artists, such as Timothy Callaghan, in their studios and see their most recent works-in-progress, all while enjoying live music and light refreshments.

The Waterloo Arts Center features a Gallery, Café, Art Center and artist Studios. The Gallery has been showcasing work of excellent Cleveland artists for over ten years and the Studios provide artists with affordable space to create, free from distractions.

“Attendance at the Walk All Over Waterloo events is growing, especially when there are several simultaneous events happening,” said Amy Callahan of Waterloo Arts. “The Open Studio Party will provide the gallery strollers another venue for viewing the work of excellent Cleveland artists.”

The second Vibrancy Project will take place on Saturday, June 14th at the Gallery One Sixty & Waterloo Sculpture Garden. The outdoor, spring barbeque will showcase artist Jane E. Baeslach’s new, permanent sculpture that will be unveiled for viewing. The event will include live music, food and beverages and goes from 4p.m. to 10 p.m.

“My intention of adding a new sculpture is to beautify the already amazing Waterloo Sculpture Garden,” said Bryon Miller of Gallery One Sixty. “Spring, summer and autumn months are a great time to visit the grounds, and share in all the amazing things Waterloo has to offer. Offering a new visual in the garden will only increase our already constant stream of visitors, and add another wonderful visual element to look at and enjoy.”

One World Mutual, another Vibrancy Project, will take place at R+D Sausage on Saturday, June 28th from 12p.m. to 6p.m. Chicago artist and local native, Jennifer Filarski will lay out, outline and replicate a paint by number mural on the exterior of the sausage and meat shop. Neighborhood residents and the Greater Cleveland Community are encouraged to come bring this project to life.

On the same day, the Intergalactic East to West Collinwood Art and Astronaut Transport Shuttle System project will take place at the Satellite Gallery from 12p.m. to 6p.m. This project is the creation of a bus covered in art that will provide transportation between the East and West side art communities. This will give visitors a chance to view the new moving art gallery and take part in the Waterloo Arts Fest, which you will not want to miss.

“This innovative art-covered bus is the first step in connecting art events throughout the city. Stopping at major Cleveland art hubs, patrons can visit galleries in different neighborhoods, without driving and the headaches associated with parking! This "bus meets spacecraft" will also serve as a rolling art gallery and as a billboard for art events! We’re very excited to share it with the public” said Naji.
