The long awaited $5.5 million Waterloo Streetscape begins!

The design and engineering has been completed by the City of Cleveland Construction and Engineering Department of the Mayor’s Office of Capital Projects, City of Cleveland. All the planning and community input into the project, which began with the 2007 Transportation for Livable Communities Initiative sponsored by the Northeastern Ohio Area Coordinating Agency successfully positioned the project to compete for funding. The Perk Company, Inc., Cleveland Ohio has been selected by the City of Cleveland and Ohio Department of Transportation to be the general contractor.

Councilman Michael D. Polensek states, “This project has been a labor of love from my office for a long time. Once it is completed, it will totally transform the Waterloo Road area into the kind of arts and entertainment district we have long worked towards. It will become a neighborhood destination place for all Clevelanders.”

Perk will be implementing the plan as created by the City of Cleveland Construction and Engineering Department/Mayor's Capital Improvement division, working with Osborn Engineering Company as well as Knight and Stolar, Inc Landscape Architects.

The Project will be managed by the Ohio Department of Transportation. Staging for the project will begin in August and will commence on the north side of Waterloo Road at East 152nd Street, with the north side of the street closed to westbound traffic. Eastbound traffic will be maintained on Waterloo Road, while westbound will be detoured to Trafalgar Avenue.

The project work involves the reconstruction of approximately 0.7 miles of Waterloo Road from East 152nd street to East 162nd Street and the rehabilitation of approximately 0.18 miles of East 156th Street from Calcutta Avenue to Trafalgar Avenue in the City of Cleveland. This project includes full depth pavement removal and replacement, pavement planing and resurfacing, removal and replacement of sidewalks and driveways, the installation of compliant A.D.A. curb ramps at crosswalks, drainage improvements, underground utilities, street lighting, traffic and pedestrian crossing signals, pavement markings and signage, and streetscape amenities which include: benches, trash receptacles, bike racks, trees with complementary plantings and decorative border pavers.

Construction will continue until November 15, 2013 for the winter shutdown. Work will resume April 15, 2014 with construction completed by Fall 2014.
