Tupac Shakur's actual advice to Cleveland Job Corps graduates

Mrs. Joyce Henry receiving applause as she sings, "Keep the dream alive" at July's Job Corps Graduation ceremony.

In the August Collinwood Observer's front page article about the Job Corps graduation ceremony, the guest speaker was misquoted. Dr. Blaine Griffin, who is the Director of the City of the Cleveland's Community Relations Board was the special guest at this year's ceremony.  Mr. Griffin spoke about the motivation it takes to pursue an education, and told the graduates that they had all “reached the next level of competition.”  He then quoted Tupac Shakur, but because our editor was waiting for confirmation on actual lines used, the actual quote got away from us, and the story went to print with Tupac's advice being, "Will place quote tomorrow," which is confusing advice at best.

Mr. Shakur's actual advice for the 226 Job Corps graduates, as quoted by Mr. Griffin at July's ceremony is: “through whatever you see, through all the rain and the pain, you gotta keep your sense of humor. You gotta be able to smile through all this bull----"  The graduates cheered their response.

We at the Collinwood Observer regret the error but welcome another opportunity to tell the 226 Job Corps Graduates how proud we are of them, and wish them every success and happiness in their future.
