On February 9th, the East 185th St. Block Watch hosted an Information Fair in lieu of their regular monthly meeting. There were representatives from over 25 city and county services at tables all around the hall. The water department was there explaining the new rates and bills. ESOP was there to help those in danger of foreclosure. Jimmie from ESOP said “we were able to provide help to 6 people in the area on Foreclosure Prevention.” He also indicated that “this was a wonderful way to meet the people who need their help the most”.

For those cat lovers out there we also had the Collinwood Feral Cat Project. They are taking care of colonies of cats some of which are casualties of the foreclosure crisis as well. Their owners just left them behind when they lost their homes. The CFCP are also trapping, neutering and releasing the cats so we don’t have any new kitties in our area.

The HELP Foundation which helps adults with Developmental Disorders, the Collinwood Garden Club, the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s office, the 2010 Census and many more service providers were available to answer the questions of the residents. The Food Bank was there with the capacity to sign people up for their programs due to the fact that the Lithuanian Hall has WIFI capabilities.

This Info Fair went over so well in spite of the snowstorm that we are thinking about doing another one this summer. It was helpful to the residents to have so much information all in one place. All of the representatives were more than helpful to the folks who braved the storm.

Councilman Polensek and Commander Drummond had tables as well. Where else can you go and get such quality one-on-one time with the commander and the councilman? They both commented on how wonderful it was that there was so much information in one place for the residents.

This event was made possible with the help of the Cleveland Division of Water, Northeast Shores, and Councilman Polensek.
