Some RTA service changes affect Collinwood

RTA officials have finalized spring service changes that take effect on Sunday, April 4. Some of those changes affect Collinwood riders.

#39/39F – Lake Shore Blvd.

Because of customer feedback at the public hearings, RTA revised its original proposal.

RTA will retain weekday midday service and rush-hour service between downtown and Lake Shore Blvd., but there will be no evening or weekend service. However, #30 – East 140th-Hayden will be extended to serve #39 stops east of East 185th Street on evenings and weekends, when #39 is not running.

#37 – E. 185th–Taylor

There will be no evening and weekend service south of Severance Town Center in Cleveland Heights. An option -- Ride the #37 to the Windermere Rapid station, ride the Red Line to the Superior Station, and transfer to the #40.

 #34 – E. 200th-Green

There will be no service on evenings or weekends.

Things to consider:

Many bus routes are affected by the April 4 service change. If you travel extensively by bus, check out the entire list of changes at www.rideRTA.com. As soon as timetables are available, they will be posted on the Maps and Schedules Page at www.rideRTA.com. If you need help in planning your commute, visit the on-line Trip Planner, or call the RTAnswerline, 216-621-9500. The telephones are staffed from 6:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Later this month, you can pick up new schedules at these locations:

·        RTA Rotunda at Tower City Center.

·        RTA Main Office, 1240 West Sixth St.

RTA revenues have been hit hard by steep declines in sales tax revenues and state funding. If no action was taken, a huge budget shortfall would result. The service changes that take effect April will reduce RTA’s expenses $9 million, through the end of 2010.

To help change this, visit www.FundOhioTransitNow.com. The Web site contains directions on how to write to your state and federal legislators and urge them to increase funding for public transit.
