Salvation Army Day Camp

Today it is 22 degrees, Fahrenheit. With the wind chill factor, it is about 13 degrees and snowing. It’s February 25, 2010; it’s doing what’s expected. Thus far this winter, it has snowed a total of 59.1 inches…a better than normal winter for this region. However, with approximately 1 ½ months to go of snowy and or cold weather…it’s a wonder that a superhero hasn’t flown to the North Pole to turn off the snow machine…

It’s cold and snowy days like these that we begin to think more about warm weather and summer: summer vacation, summer school, summer camp. You know how fast time flies…before we know it, it will be summer.  Summer, yeahhhhh! The beach, boating, swimming, no coats, no boots, no snow!  Just fun in the sun!

Now, that’s a novel concept! No one wants to go to summer school, but the reality is, someone will. While some students are in summer school, others need something fun, positive, entertaining, and educational to do. That way, the student won’t start regular school in the fall thinking…where did the lessons learned from last year go?

The Salvation Army Learning Zone is an extended learning program that seeks to enhance the educational experiences of the children we serve.  We use an intentional learning approach to fun activities, engaging students in interesting, fun, and challenging ways. During the summer, the After School Learning Zone transitions into a summer camp program at which we continue to focus on education; however, the main difference is we go places and do a lot more things outdoors.

Day Camp is in session from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday thru Friday, June 21st thru August 13th. We are located at 17526 Grovewood Avenue in Cleveland. We’re expecting a lot of superheroes this summer. Our commitment: 1) to make each student the best superhero we can in the time given; 2) to encourage and support them academically, and 3) ensure that they are valued and are having fun.  It’s no wonder we’re already running out of space! To register call Mrs. Sanford at 216-692-1388, ext. 32.
