March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

Rose-Mary Center, located in Euclid, and other related organizations celebrate Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month in March and invite you to consider the true meaning of this year’s theme, “Just Like You.”

Statewide, and across the nation, organizations devoted to serving individuals with developmental disabilities are planning special events in March to raise public awareness of the many abilities people have, regardless of disability. “Just like You” encourages people to bring diversity to their communities by welcoming people with disabilities into local neighborhoods, workplaces, houses of worship and schools.

"This is a time when our organization focuses on encouraging the public to better understand the individuals we serve," said Pat Colombo, Executive Director of Rose-Mary Center. “During Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, we encourage people to learn more about the people in this community who have disabilities. Get acquainted with someone who has a developmental disability. You’ll learn that everyone has something to offer and that people with disabilities are just like you!

Rose-Mary Center offers a residential treatment program for children with multiple disabilities.  A structured day of personal growth and development is designed for each resident through individual habilitation plans, group instruction and recreational activities. Opportunities for group home-living are also available. Rose-Mary Center assists and empowers individuals with mental retardation and developmental disabilities to achieve lives of increasing abilities and personal fulfillment, enabling them to become more independent and integrated members of the community.  The Center supports and joins with families in this pursuit.

In keeping with its rich Catholic heritage and under the auspices of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland, Rose-Mary Center provides residential services and other programs for individuals with mental retardation and developmental disabilities and their families. The Center participates in shaping policies and professional standards which promote quality of life for those served. In delivering its services, Rose-Mary Center recognizes the innate value and unique gifts of all individuals.
