Black History Month Teen Film Festival 2010: "God's Gift"
The name of the movie I saw is God’s Gift (2006), written by Britt O. Wynn. It was based on a boxing film and Romeo's struggle with God and also his struggle with his father's problem. This movie was a drama film, because it involved many situations of love and heartbreak. The characters in this film were Master P and Lil Romeo. The setting was in Los Angeles.
The film God’s Gift is about a seventeen or eighteen year-old boy. At the beginning of the film the main character was a small boy, and his dad (Master P) kept pressuring him to become a good man and to go to college since his mom and dad did not. His dad was a drunk and spent most of his time at the liquor store, and Lil Romeo lived in a bad neighborhood that had a lot of guns. During the film Lil Romeo’s friend got hit by a car, and made his life even tougher. As he got older, he had a girlfriend, and was studying to pass the SAT’s.
The sight examples that I recognized were the clothing. The clothing on the main character, Lil Romeo, were very baggy and “thug like” to show that it was their way of daily dressing and the way to look nice. The girls in the film were mainly spotted wearing tank tops, because it looked very hot outside.
The songs in the background were based on the situations that were happening. Meaning, if something bad happened there would be a low melody. Some of the songs were written by the main character Lil Romeo.
I think this film is very persuasive and can influence young people, because it shows real problems that individuals go through in their lives. It also shows that you can do whatever you want if you just put your hardest effort. The Teen Film Festival 2010 is showing at Memorial-Nottingham Branch Library
